St Austell Brewery pub in what was a much quieter part of the city. Only a couple of other groups were in, leaving the barmaid looking quite bored. On the plus side, it was the only pub of 6 I tried in the city without a bouncer or two on the door. Tribute & Proper Job are the 2 ales. I ignored these and went for a Rattler. blue_scrumpy - 17 Mar 2020 20:05 |
I went into the Wig & Pen after seeing the 'beach' outside the pub, what can be better on a summers day in the middle of a city centre but a beach complete with deckchairs and parrots! Inside the pub it's quite traditional with a good, friendly, welcoming atmosphere. There is a good choice of beers and also non alcholic drinks not the usual J2O's that seem to be in most pubs these days but drinks that don't taste of sugar and have natural flavours in them. The food menu is great both at lunchtime and in the evening i had a cheeseburger the first time which was made with good quality beef and they even asked how i wanted it cooked! I also went in for a second night and had venison with blackberry juis, delicious. Great place, good service, excellent grub & good value for money what more can you ask for whilst on holiday. Since the current landlady took over, this has become one of the best real pubs in Truro. Always a friendly greeting, good beer and a pleasant atmosphere. At first sight, the food seems a bit pricey for pub grub, until it arrives at the table, when you realise there's a quality chef in the kitchen. Fish & chips, for example, is fantastic. Its got to be the Wig and Pen for me! The landlady and her bar staff are always fantastic and accomodating, the food is lush(all the time) and they know how to keep and serve a good beer etc. The pub is extremely clean and welcoming, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. So HUGHWADD, I really think you must have rated the wrong pub, how can you rate the food if you didnt eat there either?,I really fear that at the very least you must be suffering from some kind of weird delusion, you must seek help if you think that you see trolls! HEY PEOPLE, just go and experience this charming and wonderful town pub, you wont be sorry! Rachel X harrisrj - 17 Mar 2011 22:02 |
Worth a trip just to see the landlady-now thats impressively ugly! Luckily she didn't spoil the beer (as long as I didn't sit facing her!)- good pint. Proper gastro pub menu, didn't eat anything so dunno if its all pretenscious bo**ocks, not that cheap either. Got to visit just to check out the troll behind the bar though- youve been warned!!!! hughwadd - 28 Feb 2011 18:00 |
