Yes, the pub is still down to earth, traditional and has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere-unless anything drastic has happened in the last 12 months. It has refused the temptation to modernise unlike other pubs in the area- The Ship at the Ouseburn springs to mind, yet it isn't as terrifying a prospect as the Shields Road pubs. The ale quality was pretty variable though, if I recall correctly. If they can sort that out it could become a classic. Carlurmston - 1 Nov 2008 14:31 |
A down-to-earth traditional pub situated in the Shieldfield area of Newcastle. This is a friendly, welcoming local, with good real ale and a warm atmosphere. I have fond memories of a visit in the autumn of 1996 when I came up from London on a day-trip, and hope the pub remains unchanged. There's TV for football, etc but the pub is reasonably quiet allowing for conversation. If the above is still true about the pub, then it's definitely worth a visit.
