NO REAL ALE ANYMORE. Up until yesterday I used to enjoy popping in here on a Saturday afternoon since there were always 3 local ales on tap. Went in yesterday to see the handpulls having all been ripped out, by the look of it. I was really puzzled when I couldn't see the handpulls so said to the person serving, "you used to have real ales in here". I got the short reply, "We've changed now". Curt, unfriendly service. No real. Not even any packs of nuts. Zero out of ten. dunale - 21 Sep 2014 07:26 |
This place has been going down the pan for the past 10 years and is in a sorry state, now. Even when is started doing food, I was warned by the barman when asking if they did "Mind, Stevie's cookin it!". I wasn't sure who Stevie was, but I swerved that one. In the years which followed, what must be poor management has attempted to attract students with themes, horrid drinks promos, loyalty cards and the like. Not a good beer selection, with the Caffreys being taken off being the killer. I always drink Dog when I am there. Because of my memories of the place, I keep going back, but it just makes me sadder and sadder. Get rid of all the tat, get some good ales in, and find someone who can book a band or two. If you want to introduce a loyalty card, make it to do with the number of bands you have come to see, not the amount of crap you hoy down your neck. u03cka - 9 Dec 2010 10:46 |
As has been said in an earlier post, there's been too many changes. Once a true rock bar, it's now looking more like a city centre theme pub with every new makeover. Beer quality is variable (and they stopped selling Caffreys too - a bitter blow!). Okay for watching live bands though, if that's your thing. I preferred the place when it was 'The Jubilee', back in the late 70's. ...I'd also like a pound for every time I've ordered food and been told 'that's off the menu today'. Okay for the odd pint if passing but that's about it. bringback77 - 27 Jan 2010 15:32 |
Cocker-the -rocker bar. Dont really bother with the place. Ok if you like slayer and Slipknot i suppose. needs a good clean too. scoreboard1 - 29 Jul 2009 10:05 |
I have been going here since it was the Jubilee back in the mid '80's and I have to say it has definately lost it's gloss. The DJ music is deafening (not my age!) and the beer could be better. It has been a very good venue for up and coming groups as well as some of the old bands on a reunion tour. Sometime you pay sometimes you don't. It lost a bit of it's clientelle when Legends nightclub opened round the corner, and stayed open til 3 where ar Trillz stays open til only 1am on Thurs, Friday and Saturday. The quiz is taken very seriously on a Sunday, so don't go in and play up, or you'll be out on your ear. Can be a very funny night! Questions not rock related, and can be very hard! speshal_kay - 17 Feb 2007 16:42 |
