Good Beer Guide 2019 Entry - and well worthy. Like Mr Mallard, I had the a Kelham Island Bitter and it was perfect.

Lovely hob gate fire. Good food. Good Service.

Pleasant enough tourist pub in a pleasant enough tourist village. Ale was on good form and worth dropping by for - The Kelham Island Bitter in particular.

On a recent visit to Castleton (on Garland Day), we chose this pub and found the beer and food very pleasant. At the time, the ales on offer were mostly (if not all) Farmers ales from the Bradfield Brewery, near Sheffield. We tried the Farmers Stout and Farmers Brown Cow, both of which were excellent. The pub was comfortable and well kept, and the service was friendly and efficient.

The beer I have had here (Landlord and an Abbeydale) on the last two occasions has been subpar. The staff have not been particularly friendly or clued-up either. it is a shame - the bar itself is very nice and this could be a smashing place. Perhaps I went at the wrong time (winter lunchtime).

Beer choice was a little more limited than some Castleton pubs, but the ale that I tried was very good. There is a fairly large bar area as well as a big room set up with dining tables
