| Used to be good, provided you avoided the dark beer. That was usually poor, presumably because the beer was not adequately cooled and the dark beer sold more slowly. Last time I called there were only two beers on. The (pale) one I had was terrible. Only one other customer late evening. It has gone rapidly downhill since 'Just Ales' in Frome opened. | Billed as Somerset's first micropub, this place was shut on my original Sunday evening visit. So, I returned on the Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime. It's quite unusual for a micropub. Most I have been in have a modern, clean feel. Many are a bit too clinical, if they can be criticised at all. The previous reviewer mentions the word "ramshackle" and I'd completely concur with that. It felt like we'd entered a hoarder's front room. Clutter abounds and the woman that served us seemed a bit of a character. The pub's title is also a little misleading. If it changed its name to Just 3 Ales, it would be more appropriate. There were many more ciders than ales. Nevertheless, the ales were of the lesser spotted variety - Severn Copper Ale, 3D Out Run & Yeovil Spring Forward. More of interest to me was the excellent cider selection - Heck's Dry, Medium & Sweet, Kingston Black & Brown's Apple, Rich's Legbender Dry, Medium, Sweet & Golden Harvest & Wilkins Dry, Medium & Sweet. We had three halves between us (the Golden Harvest was delicious). CAMRA members get a discount, but only on pints. Apparently a round of 2 halves does not count, despite it being the same cider. | Ramshackle but rather glorious, the tables are packed together and CAMRA members are sozzled. The beers are saved from casks, Beer Festival style and are warm and woozy. The cider choice is also tiptop as you would expect from this part of the country. BoehmBawerk - 9 Jul 2017 19:49 |
| Well's new micropub, located very near the bus station. It has Wilkins and Riches ciders and a perry. Welcoming atmosphere and I liked the decor. Open all afternoon but closes early in evenings. jgurney1 - 27 Oct 2016 08:26 |
