| The Old Mill is a former social club tucked away through an archway from the High Street, but also accessible from a car par at the rear. You walk through local residents' gardens to get in. Music being played didn't seem befitting to a pub in a small market town in rural Wales. But maybe this is the place the local hipsters hang out. Although there were no other customers on my visit. The young barman assured me it had been packed earlier and all the punters were attending a function in the pub's function room. He offered me a piece of chocolate cake! Ales looked encouraging - Ludlow Blonde & Black Night & Wye Valley The Hopfather. I selected the Black Night, but it ran out before I could get a full glass - disappointing as it was the only dark ale present in 12 pubs visited in Powys on this day. I went for The Hopfather instead, which was far better than I expected, given I don't normally enjoy hoppy beers. | Introduced to the Old Mill by my country cousins. Hidden down through an alleyway, across a courtyard, and then down a long too brightly lit corridor you enter a dark room and... Oh wow. Oh wow. | Visiting Llanidloes last weekend and came across The Old Mill. Was very impressed by the laid back atmosphere, lovely bar food and great choice of bread and pastries baked on site for sale at the bar. Good choice of local real ales served by friendly staff.
