| Greene King squanders another opportunity with minimum effort & lowest common denominator ethos. What ale there is treated like lager 'with issues'. Shame - it's a grand ole building that could cater for the increasing affluence and good taste in the area. Avoid at all costs and make your way to the Albany Hotel 10 minutes away. | a brief visit to Cardiff , this being the only pub I visited , unfortunately , as I'm sure there are far better pubs than this around in Cardiff .I'll lead with the positive , bar staff friendly , food adequate but nothing special . large pub , music far too loud ,and was unable to hold a conversation because of this , and there were only about 10 customers in the pub ,you know you could have strangled someone in there ,and no one would have heard you , forced to sit outside because of the noise , where it was cold , but as both back doors were open it was cold inside anyway . Outside Heaters failed to remedy the chill. lastly beer choice of two, abbot ale , and speckled hen ,the latter of which was off . my first pint of ABBOT was flat,.the second which I braved was ok . | On my one visit to The Claude we sat on the "old man's" side but were still able to hear one of the worst covers bands ever from the other bar. They played mostly Stereophonics songs and we joked that they were probably called the Monophonics. And guess what, we were right. We wondered if the hairy bloke that got kicked out of the real 'Phonics was the drummer, although as we never ventured over to the much busier side of the pub we never found out. Instead we supped on our ales (not a bad selection, which seems to thankfully be the norm for Cardiff) and watched as a mildly cute girl in a pink t-shirt went to the toilets at least 6 times in just over an hour. For some reason she seemed more agitated and with increasing sniffles every time she came out! She left with a big, fat geeky bloke too which was interesting. chopperbomb - 11 Sep 2006 21:09 |
| Nice old building, OK beers on tap but is the sort of place that could and should be better. Losing the pool tables and turning away it's admittedly small number of yob customers would be a start. | This pub is one of the best in Cardiff. Always a friendly atmosphere. Food is avaliable, at very reasonable prices. It only costs �2 for a main meal. The food is really nice.
