Friendly modernish dining pub that actually had a good few games-playing local when I visited. Beer selection looked sensible and was pretty well kept. mtaylor40 - 1 Feb 2014 21:29 |
A nice old building with a modern extension and large car park. Very spacious interior. MMuch more orientated towards food than beer, and the barstaff made the fatal mistake of asking if we were eating when I ordered my drinks. I absolutley HATE that! However, they did have a good range of ales. I had Clifton ale which was very nice. Also had Weston's cider on tap. Overall, average and pretentious Buster_M - 12 Jun 2013 10:06 |
just had a lunch time couple of pints and terrible is all i can say, no real ale selection, gaudy interior and horrible black and nasty repaired leather cornor sofas, tired interior, and weird mix of cheap vetriano prints and new york skycraper worker photso ?? is this not a kent country pub worse thing is though, im a happy chap, but land lady and other female staff miserable as sin, i never got as much as a smile or a thank you but... guess what if your a regular or local, im only 12 miles away but obviously not local enough, if your a local you get chat, banter grins smikles and all the other gumpf that youd expect from the owners of a pub that should be very gratefull of any custom. i really wont bother with this pub again and was recce ing it fo going to have my last nights meal before i go back to afgan later this week as on leave. thanks rising sun, i think i would rather go back to helmand naffi !!!! sjamsey1969 - 4 Mar 2012 14:20 |
Been here many times for food and beer and menu interesting with a few well thought out dishes as well as the old favourites.Beer choice and condition good and food mainly excellent. The only negative comments are the veg is cooked to a point where it could be sucked up a straw and as i have all my own teeth and not in a nursing home seems a bit OTT. The other thing is the cheese board, seeing as Kent produces several fine cheeses within a 10 mile radius none are available here,in fact the most local cheese is one made in France!! Pretty disgraceful not to support local businesses. However it's a nice pub with a nice atmosphere and a good place to go. foodieman - 14 Aug 2011 18:51 |
Visited 24/04/11 Bank Holiday (Sunday) 17:30 Rudgate Battle Axe - 3.30 As you enter the main door of this beautiful building you are a struck with quite a modern and bright, some might say garish interior. The walls are painted with yellows and oranges, popular paintings and prints adorn the walls. The pub feels very clean, the bar is very highly polished. Judging by the pub/restaurant ration and the specials board It appears that this pub focuses more on it's restaurant clientele. The quality of the ale was not of a great standard and had the green hue which is usually a sign of flatness. The service was professional and a little bland. I guess in short, it was a professional restaurant cum bar, which caters more for diners than drinkers. sefpacific - 25 Apr 2011 11:01 |
