| I thought I already knew the best pub in Bradford before this visit. The Fighting Cock is a fantastic traditional boozer with a good selection of ale and cider. But Jacobs Beer House destroyed my illusion. Whilst the former is a more traditional place, the atmosphere in Jacobs is also good and the ale and cider selection is much better. The choice on Saturday evening was Wychwood Hobgoblin, Stancill Barnsley Bitter, Sunbeam Eclipse, Slightly Foxed New Zealand Pale Ale, Hilltop Raspberry Beret, Ashover The Fabrick & Titanic Plum Porter. Unsurprisingly for the 2017 Yorkshire CAMRA cider pub of the year (or possibly runners up), it had an excellent range of ciders - Coleman's Pear Cider & Dry Cider, Pure North Valley Oak, Old Fruity & Sweet Union, Broadoak Perry, Grumpy John's Medium, Udders Orchard Lindley Gold & Snails Bank Very Perry. | Great pub using a simple formula. Great real ale at a great price in genuine traditional circumstances. The pub is five minutes from Bradford Interchange and sticks out like an oasis amongst a concrete jungle of 1960s architecture. Visited on a Saturday night and it was comfortably busy. Five/Six great real ales, bar snacks and rolls. Background music but not distracting from conversation. Well worth a visit. twineyboy - 8 Jun 2015 15:29 |
| Very pro-active with new and small breweries. We went on the occasion of a mini beer fest and the only issue we had was the high gravity of most of the beers. | I was looking forward to a trip to Jacobs Beer House (formerly Jacobs Well) but unfortunately was closed on a Wednesday lunch time. Further investigation reveals it has fairly limited opening hours and doesn't open until 4pm Monday to Wednesday, 3pm on a Thursday & Sunday, and midday on Friday & Saturday. Plenty of "picnic bench" style tables out the front - I imagine this must get busy in the summer. I will have to see if I can make it back to Bradford during opening times to pay this place a visit. | A welcome addition to the central Bradford pub scene. The new owner also runs the New Beehive in Bradford, and the Shakespeare in Sheffield, and has stuck to the sensible formula of a basic boozer selling quality real ales at very reasonable prices (£2.70 - £2.85 on my visit). Beers were from Salamander, Acorn, Saltaire, Great Newsome, Wall Brewery (Northallerton) and Thwaites. Food consists of sandwiches and pork pies.
