Good Lord, I see the post from the 'rambler' below and wonder if he likes to ramble with both his feet and his tongue. I visited this pub and found it to be very clean and welcoming, the staff were all very friendly and most helpful, no room for complaints whatsoever. I had a ham sandwich that was packed with good tasty fresh ham and served with complimentary chips and garnish. I had a pint of Spitfire, it was crystal clear and the temperature was just right. No complaints with either the food or beer. The pub itself is warm, friendly and inviting. Good decor, clean toilets, interesting artifacts and signs, good background music and comfortable seating, outside is a huge beer garden with plenty of seating and a children's play area. I see they do live music most Saturday nights. Please ignore the previous most vicious post. This is a good pub that you can visit with confidence. I'm sure you will enjoy it there if you go. Our ramblers club organised with The Crown Inn, Leaves Green, Keston, Kent, for us to have lunch after a ramble nearby. We arrived to the empty pub just before 1 pm. Once we arrived we were to make our own arrangement for food and drink. As we entered I asked my friend if he and his wife would like a drink and whilst I was ordering the drinks he ordered gammon and chips for them both. After about twenty minutes he returned to the bar to order a round, Some of the club were still ordering food, I ordered liver and bacon for my wife and I. I wanted a different ale from the one I previously had. As the barman approached with it I could smell it was off. The barmen reluctantly changed it, he went to the cellar and when he returned advised that the cask had been open to the atmosphere all night. After about an hour and a quarter, after all the others had been served with their food they served our table of six. Our friends who ordered long before us were still waiting for their gamon and chips. My friend asked when they were to get theirs , the women shrugged her shoulders, and he asked for their money back, so they could go elsewhere, she replied if you wish and then said the food would be a few minutes, no apology. When it eventually arrived ten minutes later, the bacon was very fatty and the few mostly burnt chips were floating in grease, they said it tasted of liver. He commented on the size and condition of the food and was told very sarcastically "I am very sorry if that is how you feel", as she dashed for the kitchen. We were appalled. Scores out of 5 Beers on offer 2 - Beer quality 4 - Full pint? 3 - Service 2 - Clientele 3 Garden & view 4 - Welcome & staff 2 - Parking 4 - Toilets 3 - Comfort 4 TOTAL 31 out of 50 OVERALL RATING 31 to 35 = 7 Comment: Big pub, not many in at lunchtime but the service .... slow is an understatement. Of the 3 pints ordered, 1 was full, 1 was short but the last was very low. When asked to top up the 2 shorties we got a stare and a reluctant top up, on the very low pint ........ to low. Garden was huge and great seeing the planes from Biggin Hill taking off but there is no excuse for short measure. Returnability: 1 Thirstyworker - 23 Jul 2012 20:12 |
i have recently been to this pub for my mothers wake and i cannot fault the staff for the wonderful food and assistance they gave us, nothing was too much trouble and the seating was great ( suitable for all ages with sofas, chairs and barstools ) also the wide range of drinks available tea, coffee, soft drinks and of course beers. they also have live music on saturday nights and they do lovely sunday dinners as we found out while staying in the area for the funeral. jimblegog - 22 Oct 2011 14:51 |
Only popped in briefly on a very Sunny afternoon in Oct(!) but from what I saw this looks a very cosy and friendly pub. Can sit out the front and watch the traffic go by, sit to the side in a good bar garden, comfortable looking interior, friendly bar lady serving and a decent range on tap Would def like to return the_original_rawnsleys - 3 Oct 2011 10:51 |
