| I agree with davvac re the low rating for this pub being unfair, but what makes it more remarkable is the extremely high ratings for at least two other local pubs which I would consider (having visited recently and been shocked at the poor service, poor management and poor beer) as lower scorers than this place. Who knows why that is. pub is far from my favourite but does have a good selection of beers, plenty of options as to where to sit in quite a well refurbished bar and has an acceptable beer garden. I agree with juwwi re the service which is similar to that Love Restaurant programme where desolate couples meet on blind dates while the staff regard them with disdain while canoodling with one another in the corner. | This new venue is about 2/3rds restaurant and 1/3rd pub. It has been recently renovated in a very trendy manner, without totally losing the building's historic charms. The clientele looks very prosperous, and I guess they'd have to be, given that a pint each of Nastro Azurri and Sunbeam came to £8.65 and the steaks cost around £25. The beer was well-kept and two other ales from the local Tring brewery were also available. Personally I prefer the traditional charms of the nearby Castle. Number11 - 23 Nov 2014 12:25 |
| Have long been looking forward to visiting this pub as I am an admirer of the owners business plan without having visited.A day off and an explore around Tring finally gave me a chance to visit an Oakman inn. On entering the pub I was pleased to see three handpumps and despite one being turned around I was looking forward to trying a local Rib Tickler by Tring. My pleasure soon turned to despondency As I was ignored to be served by three members of staff (despite it being quiet ) by customers who had approached the bar after me. Was looking forward to a pint and lunch but left without being served. A real shame as a great idea. I guess made the worse by my high expectations of the small pubco :( The Robin hood was last on my list (as a Fullers house) but was greeted and served immediately even though it was busier. If you want a very decent pint go to the Castle (not on this website) recently bought by Vale. if you want beer and good homemade food go to the Kings Head. | Surprised at the low rating this place is currently showing. Sure, it's not a pub, but it has good quality beer, you can go there just for a drink if you want and the outside terrace/garden area is frankly stunning. I have eaten here several times and the food has always been good, not brilliant. I personally find the menu a bit uninspiring.
