Located close to the town's market place this Spoon pub has 6 handpulls offering a wider selection of local and national ales including Milestone, Titanic, Batemans, Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best and Sharp's Doom Bar. A large open plan seating area downstairs is supplemented with a quieter upper level to the rear. One of the better Wetherspoons. TheLowflyer72 - 21 Mar 2015 04:18 |

Seems to have really come a long way in the last 6 months. The atmosphere in there is really great and I was impressed by how welcoming and friendly the staff were on my visit (nothing seemed too much of an inconvenience). The selection of real ales was spot on (particularly the Lymestone brewery 'Stone the Crows'). I visited with a friend who was excited to see they stock two lagers on draught from Freedom brewery in Abbots Bromley. I will admit the Freedom Pilsner was one of the nicest lagers I've had in a long time and, as I was informed, exclusive in Uttoxeter to the Old Swan. We enjoyed the food, standard Wetherspoon Faye, which was good value. Compared to a few of the other venues in town that are looking tired and undesirable the Old Swan seemed to stand out as a bit of a shrine. We will definitely call again. Not a Lloyds bar now, just a standard Weatherspoons drinking barn. Admittedly a very good and large selection of real ales at very decent prices and, actually, the food was pretty good, but its just...kinda soul-less. Always rammed on weekend nights and the crowds can get quite boisterous and frankly tiresome, although any trouble that sparks usually sems to happen after the hoards have made their way across the square to the awful Academy.
