In town with the Spoonburners' for their visit to St.Mirren yesterday. I'd wanted to check out The Alamo, a boozer which scores highly on here but which made the average 1980s Kilburn High Road boozer look like a Henley-on-Thames gastropub when I was last in. That was a while back, though. Sadly, as it was a typical West of Scotland summer's day (about 15c and lashing it down) I decided to go no further than The Last Post. As stated, it's a large 'Spoons with a huge variety of beers and a fair selection of slot machines. Surprisingly few punters in for a Saturday lunchtime, considering Hibs brought 1,600 to the match, so service was swift for everyone. I somehow opted for Magner's on draught at two quid and nine pennies. With a few Hibs shirts on display, it was hard not to get visions of Franco Begbie casually tossing a glass from the large but almost empty upstairs gallery. I'm sure there are lots of Paisley boozers more likely to attract Franco Begbies than this one. MarlingSnallard - 21 Aug 2016 16:09 |
I had 4 pubs in Paisley to tick off so i started in this extremely large and imposing building that used to be Paisley's main post office and is right outside Gilmour Street station. Typical Wetherspoons with a large selection of ales. 12 hand pumps dispensing 11 different ales, 6 of them were from Scottish breweries. My pint from The Orkney Brewery at £2.20 was great value for money. The crowd were mostly 40 something's and upwards, pleasant and with constant chatter, there's no reason not to like this place unless you're not a fan if Spoons'. Efficient bar staff unlike a lot of ‘spoons establishments, not so many “creatures” but maybe I got lucky! All in all it’s a decent pub that more than serves a purpose. lezford - 11 Jun 2014 14:03 |
I popped in for a quick couple of halves before my train back to Glasgow and found it OK. The toilets were being upgraded so the only Gents loo was the disabled(enough said). The beer was fine and I didn't wait long to be served - it was lunchtime but not too busy. Standard spoons offerings but good between trains! mcroyal - 20 May 2014 11:01 |
I've started using this pub as a convenient stop off between my flight getting in to Glasgow airport and my train departing from Gilmour street. Decent pint of Guinness and have found the staff and manager friendly. LordCarson - 9 Feb 2012 17:41 |
Had an exceptional pint of Otter Mild (3.8%) here last night en route to having my nuts frozen off at Firhill. Roll on the Paisley Beer Festival. jagsfan - 20 Apr 2010 13:35 |
