I visit this area occasionally, I have twice eaten at The Tilbury, it is not really a pub, just an eating establishment. One meal several months ago was good if not exceptional, pleasant enough. I ate there recently in a group (I was not paying). I was given the worst rump steak I have ever been given in 50 years or so of pub dining. Not one lump of meat which is what I expected but two overcooked & scrappy pieces. "Medium rare"!. The chef should have been ashamed to put it out. I did not complain at the time so as not to spoil the occassion for my hosts. I conclude the Tilbury team are getting complacent or management has lost it's grip. pheon - 7 Aug 2011 16:39 |
On the strength of these e-mails alone I shall avoid this pub. Tewin - 13 Jun 2011 17:20 |
The Tilbury scores Ten out of Ten, every time. Great food and great service. foodfoodie - 4 Nov 2010 19:43 |
It is very interesting that you have received this poor service and email from the Tilbury. A couple of years ago my mum went for a Christmas celebration lunch there with her friend. The quality of the food was good but the service was very poor and being sat in the back room near the toilet away from the main room where other parties were celebrating did not lead to them having much of a Christmas atmosphere. After asking why they had been sat away from the celebrations, they were told that the larger room was probably too noisey for them - are they not allowed to enjoy Christmas too?! For the rest of their meal, they were aware that the staff were very negative towards them and made them feel unwelcome. Following this meal, they felt the need to write to the owner and make them aware of the poor service. In response to this email, they received the following from Paul Bloxham;.......Is this really the type of response you would expect from a respected chef to a perfectly polite reasonable email From: The Tilbury <[email protected]>Add to Contacts To: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh Dear, So you Just dont get it do you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Usually I use the one day rule to reply and I must say your emeil has just changed my mind. I am not about to justify, defend or indeed appologise for the fact you were totally expecting a Fine Dining HOTEL experience. We are a PUB, that serves good food on bare tables, GASTROPUB !!!!!! 99.9% of our customers understand this and that Sheila includes food critics and foodies alike, maybe you should be questioning your judement on this occaision. Rudenees such as this against me or my team will not be tollereated by any means and as a sesonal gesture I will put it down to a glass too MANY. Maybe a better worded more rational email may have been the order of the day, and as for your eighty pence it is ready for you to collect or perhaps we could post it to you. Seasons Greetings And god help any PUB that has to endure this type of behaviour from grown women. The Cabinet Ha Ha Ha !!!!!!! Paul Bloxham Director beth3210 - 15 Aug 2010 10:55 |
The food was lovely, if not slightly overpriced and our chateubriand ,55,was served quite poorly, with the cutlery shoved amongst the food. The service was very poor and when we emailed the restaurant to advise them of our views we received the below rude response back......I've had better customer service at McDonalds!!! -----Original Message----- From: thetilbury.co.uk mailto:thetilbury.co.uk Sent: 05 August 2010 14:25 To: Subject: Re: Service!!!!
