This could be an excellent pub, but at present it's scruffy and unkempt and badly needs a refurbishment. However if you don't mind this, it's a friendly and welcoming place with decent (though not special) beer and food. nedsram - 31 Jul 2011 23:16 |
I have only been out of season after walking in the nearby hills and so have not experienced the chaos decribed below. I found the ale and food good. wirraldrinker - 1 Dec 2010 11:16 |
Arrived in Bickerton Poacher at 2.00 after a hefty walk along the Sandstone trail from Whitchurch. The Poacher is a multiple roomed family affair let down by the distracting Grand Prix on the TV and too many children. Fairly expensive at 3.40 a price of Strongbow. Real Ale available was Old Peculiar, Speckled Hen, Caledonian Nectar and Spitfire. I had the Old Peculiar which was perfectly nice but C4Lfs resident head brewer felt his pint was too yeasty. Ordered food which comes in monstrous portions especially the legendary Big Mans mixed grill. The bar staff were delightfully surly. Theres an old fashioned skittles alley if you want some extra entertainment. Dcor 7.2 Barstaff 6.2 Atmos 6.2 Booze 6.4 Environment 6.2 Clientele 5.2 Overall 6.2 C4Lf - 30 Nov 2010 21:59 |
Not bad - ideally placed for those on Sandstone Trail and camping or B&B. As a pub for drinking it's a non-starter - impossible to relax! Inside the staff are charging around serving 'eaters' and the turnover is high so also customers buzzing about. Outside is play area with screaming kids - if your looking for a quiet beer - forget it. Real Ales - had 4 on but all from larger brewery's and non from local such as Weetwood or Dunham Massey, etc. kernott1 - 6 Apr 2010 13:39 |
