| We called in recently for both food and drink and found a warm welcome. It is undoubtedly a busy pub (book ahead or get there before 1230 if you want Sunday lunch) but it seemed to have room for everyone, whether drinking, dining or both. It helps that there's several tables outside. The staff were all cheerful and helpful and didn't seem to notice our somewhat bedraggled appearance at all (we had walked along part of the Sandstone Trail, which passes through the village, and were a bit muddy). Neither did they mind the cyclists and other walkers, nor indeed the wide variety of dogs. Four cask ales on offer: three from Weetwood plus Lancaster Amber as the day's guest (£3.30-£3.40 a pint). Food is pricey as you would expect in rural Cheshire but we were happy with our Sunday lunches (£12.50), and there are cheaper options like sandwiches. One word of warning: they do the roast beef very pink so sing out if you like it well done. It may interest some readers to know that the Cheshire Candle Workshops and its "The 'Olde Tyme' Penny Arcade" are only a hundred yards away (good place to entertain children). | This pub has a beautiful location overlooking Cheshire and Wales. But unfortunately its reputation precedes it and the place was immensely popular with diners during our Christmas Eve visit. In fact, the only tables available were outside. So we had a brief visit, braving the cold for a while, whilst admiring the wonderful views. Inside there were plenty of tables, but all were taken with people enjoying food. Three Weetwood beers were on - Best Bitter, Eastgate Ale & Old Dog. Cider was Kingstone Press. The sort of place I wouldn't mind returning to on a quiet midweek evening or daytime, but too crowded to enjoy on our visit. blue_scrumpy - 26 Dec 2011 17:41 |
| Having read some earlier reviews we half expected to be turned away at the door, being two grubby cyclists, but far from it! Three real ales on offer of which we went for the Eastgate, which was very moorish. Ok it's more a restaurant than pub, but the beer was excellent so it gets thumbs up from me. | I like this place, though it's not the cheapest. Food and beer are both very good. The views are also worth a small premium. Not a pub to go to with your last �10, but on the other hand reasonable value for money. Oner of my friends hates this place and much prefers the Dysart at Bunbury, just shows that tastes differ. | Beautiful converted sandstone farm building. There were five real ales on when we went: Weetwood Eastgate Cheshire Cat (Lady Weetwood) Weetwood bitter Spitting feathers Summer solstice Sat outside and enjoyed the stunning views across the Cheshire plain (the most saltiest of all the plains). Two things detracted slightly from the Pheasant. One was the teenage barmen who didn�t fill up our pints to the top and we had to tell him. Epic fail n00b � all your base r etc. Secondly, that this place belongs to the Cheshire Set and we really we have neither the money nor the breeding to be here. Filled with inferiority we gave the clientele a paltry four, even though they are our social betters. Take that Major.
