A short walk from the Ship Inn is the Steam Packet. This is a small bar area with 3 hand pumps and 3 ales. Otter ale, Skinners Betty Stogs and Hunters Devon Dreamer were on during my visit. I went for a pint of Betty Stogs and it was decent. Cracking views across to Dartmouth and of the River Dart from the bay window. As said above this is a small bar with a handful of seats and a bench in the front window that can seat 4 people. Decent bar that certainly seemed popular with the locals. I like this place and will return if I ever return to Dartmouth lezford - 30 Sep 2015 14:05 |
Went to this one before catching the steam train back to Totnes in the afternoon on 30/12/13. The pub not looking special from the outside did not halt our quest for a good pint. On entering one is greeted by a single narrow room running the width of the property. To the back wall stands the bar that gave me the impression that there is no exit at the back for the bar staff! Always good, you can be attended to until the clientele allow them out of the front door for the occasional loo visit (just my imagining you understand) A very pleasant ramshackle place with the edges reassuringly knocked off by many years of the local drinkers traffic over it's welcoming threshold. A very local atmosphere with an excellent range of regulars ready for some friendly banter as was the very friendly Barmaid/Landlady? Sadly my daughter, her friend and I had to rush our very well presented Henry's IPA for the sake of catching the train. Given the choice we certainly would have been ensconced for a happy hour or two. I do really love an un-buggered about pub that is not trying to be what it's not. Dumpstig - 31 Dec 2013 11:00 |
Called in after a blustery walk down from Lower Ferry. Pub was warm and bustling with late afternoon Sunday trade. Lots of picky bits on the bar. Cracking pint. Lovely views. Well worth a visit; just up from Kingswear station and Higher Ferry. LickeyEndBooze - 10 Nov 2013 19:03 |
OK pub with lovely views across the Dart. 3 ales on but nothing exciting, all fairly similar styles. Consequently we had just the one each and moved on. Does do basic food at certain times. Wouldn't rush back but this isn't a great area for real ale variety in the pubs. Is Otter becoming another London Pride or Doom Bar? Steamer1 - 1 Oct 2013 09:52 |
Found this pub a liittle odd. It is a small place on the main road in from Brixham. Did have some great photos though of big ships in the river dart on the walls. 6/10 montie49 - 19 Aug 2011 18:25 |
