The Marcia was standing room only in the bar on our Saturday evening visit. It also has a separate room for dining. Service was polite and efficient. Some of the ales had run out and not been replaced. But they had Leeds Pale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Bradfield Farmer's Blonde, Treboom Yorkshire Sparkle & Ainsty Somachi Samurai all on. We didn't try the Woodman over the road. But it strikes me that Bishopthorpe makes for a nice, short crawl. blue_scrumpy - 26 Mar 2018 21:01 |
Our last pub of the night in Bishopthorpe and at 11pm it’s very busy with the majority of the punters in the bar to the left of the main entrance. Everyone appeared to be local (which is good) and the chatter was lively. On the bar were 4 cask ales which were Timothy Taylor's Landlord , Leeds Pale Ale, Roosters Yankee and my choice which was Treboom Breweries Yorkshire Sparkle @ 4.0%. The sparkle was very good and is well kept. Music was playing a bit higher than background level with the music controlled by the 2 young bar staff. Apparently the Marcia was extensively refurbished in 2013 and does look a lot different now to the photo’s I have seen before the refurbishment. There is a dining area to the right and having checked their website the foo seems to be affordable home cooked fare, I didn’t see anyone eating on my visit but it was late. We stayed for a few drinks, enjoying the atmosphere and the music. Another decent pub in this cracking little village. lezford - 7 Dec 2015 17:31 |
The pub has very little atmosphere and possibly the worst pint of Black Sheep Bitter in the whole of Yorkshire! jibby1 - 29 Apr 2010 15:21 |
The Marcia has seen many different landlords but manages to keep its charm which may have something to do with the wit and endless surprises the regulars provide. It boasts good food and a friendly atmosphere and a decent working environment ***** jess - [email protected] - 15 Nov 2004 15:41 |
Proof positive that location isn't everything - has it's good points, notably decent beer, good food and a beer garden the size of Wales - don't sit under the tree unless you like ants, though! Bad points include generally being full of 16 year olds who think that drinking beer will make them hard, plus a couple of members of bar staff who appear to have had a personality bypass. Not bad, but not brilliant either. Simon Ward - 15 Aug 2003 10:11 |
