The Swan on the Stray was our 8th pub of the day and had the best ale selection. The exterior of the building is nice and it's located in a nice area. Sadly though, the modern interior pushes my score down. I'm more of a traditionalist. Bar staff are knowledgeable. Food is served and the place can get fairly busy. Ales on late yesterday evening were Roosters Last Stand, Okells MPA, Ilkley Mary Jane, Daleside Blonde, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Revolutions Senses Working Overtime, Anarchy Sublime Chaos Breakfast Stout & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Cider was Hecks Medium. I tried the 7% stout and it was very drinkable. If for some reason you cannot find anything that takes your fancy amongst the real ales, there are also a few different keg and bottled options. Well worth a visit, if in Harrogate. blue_scrumpy - 13 Apr 2014 19:14 |
Good atmosphere, comfortable seating and tables, nice carpet, efficient and friendly bar staff, excellent choice of well kept beers, good food, dog friendly. However no bar stools or snacks on the bar on a Sunday. tazerdog - 12 Dec 2010 16:36 |
no character, awful furniture and carpet beers good and worth a visit but not a place to stay all night in. blureg - 31 May 2010 20:11 |
This is in actual fact the latest venture by Market Town Taverns (hence the appearance of an Old Bell familiar face behind the bar) so expect a good selection of handpulled beers mainly from Yorkshire and the north, plus German, Czech, Belgian, etc beers in bottles and on draught. The Barngates and Elland beers I sampled were spot on when I visited and I had Confit of Duck leg on a bed of noodles which was extremely tasty. Well done MTT! JBGatelad - 22 Mar 2010 20:51 |
Formerly the Black Swan now reovated and re-opened as the Swan on the Stray. Nicely done out and the landlord knows his beers. Good selection of real ales which are well kept and changed on a regular basis. Always seems to be something new to try on every vist. Food served as well but haven't eaten there as yet. Well worth a look in. Sidders - 27 Feb 2010 08:20 |
