Now called Oak Bar & Bistro. wirraldrinker - 1 Jan 2017 13:04 |
My wife persuaded to me to visit this establishment again. I reluctantly agreed. On entering, I noticed some loud mouthed yobbo's at the bar who were chatting to the manager and the staff. It didn't take long for them to start using the "F" word. Swearing is acceptable here. The manager is a wimp who puts profits first. The food & service wasn't as good as normal. Expensive lager. You live and learn. Pub99 - 28 Jul 2013 20:26 |
Popped in one lunchtime for a bite to eat. Looked like a gathering of the local women's institute. Good atmosphere, great food & good prices. All served up by friendly & helpful staff. Might give it a try in the evenings again. Let's see if they've managed to sort out the troublemakers. Pub99 - 31 Oct 2011 16:34 |
When this place first opened, they were desperate for business (and still are). As a result, they allowed in the people who had been banned from the 3 local pubs (i.e. druggies, troublemakers, loudmouthed yobbo's and p*ssheads). I've lost count how many times I've seem trouble at this place. Disgracefully, the staff sometimes turn a blind eye because they know the people involved or they just hope it goes away. The female staff seem incapable of handing "situations". Most of the time in the evening, this place is dead and has no atmosphere, compared to the 3 other local pubs which always seems to be busy. We went to the 2009 New Year Party (we usually go for a good old knees up at the the Greave Dunning opposite). What a disaster. Not enough chairs, freezing cold (they had lost the key to shut a window), not enough food and surprise, surprise, more trouble. I wrote a letter of complaint but didn't get a reply. 20 per person for a naff night out. We and others haven't been back since. It's very popular with smokers who stand right by the door and allow the wind to blow it all back in. They constantly come in and out all night so best if you bring a warm coat in winter and an oxygen tank. On a positive note, when it's busy and there's a band on, it's really good. Good place to go for a daytime coffee when the troublemakers are at work or signing on at the local dole office. The food is good but main meals finish too early so you have to have tapas. This place is currently being extended (again). Probably to accommode the troublemakers and smokers. If you got rid of the owers and banned the idiots then the place could be a lot, lot better.
