Visited about a month ago as for some bizarre reason my mates met up here. We were the only people in the place. A really sad state of affairs and epitomises the downfall of the immediate area around it. Has the potential to be an awesome pub interior wise but looks like everyone has just given up and who wouldn't with the depressing vibe round this part of town. The "games" area by the pool table has crap strewn everywhere and looks like someone has raided a charity shop judging by the amount of VHS tapes and old books kicking about. The fella who seemed to be running it and the attractive girl behind the bar were friendly enough but it must be a real struggle to motivate yourself in such surroundings. Judging by the the standard of the rest of the ambiance decided to skip on the small fizzy beer selection they had and had a go on the house vodka and coke. Think it would be best to put this place out of its misery. back2ploughlane - 17 Apr 2012 15:00 |
If your ever in Southampton and fancy a pint then do yourself a favour and avoid this shit hole of a pub at all costs. Possibly the worst pub ive ever been in and ive been in a few. The beer had bits floating in it and we were charged 3.20 for it. The woman/ man ( don't know what it was really ) behind the bar was just disgusting towards everyone who came in to contact with her. Avoid at all cost unless you like drinking shit and being intimidated by a bearded lady behind the bar. reddrinker - 7 Mar 2011 14:29 |
Visited this pub August 16th 2010,only one more customer in the bar. This used to be a busy little pub but since all the shops in East Street Centre have shut down the pub has suffered. bennes1 - 18 Aug 2010 06:52 |
This old, brewers Tudor style pub in East Street was a Whitbread managed house when I first moved to Southampton and then was run by a great old ex-marine called Rob with his wife and son for many years. Punch Taverns bought the pub and jacked the rent up to almost stratospheric levels so Rob & his family have gone and now the pub is up for sale, in dire need of a huge refurb and doing no business. When I last went in there (June 2010), there was a holding company running the pub and they only had draught guiness and cider on as they had run out of anything else. If things don't improve, this pub may be yet another casualty...which would be a real shame. 3/10 SotonAleDrinker - 27 Jun 2010 16:43 |
