Had a couple of really good nights in here. They have live music and the band was pretty good. It does food too. It's a big place and was pretty lively both nights but there are a couple of unobtrusive bouncers looking on. At one end, there's a pool table and snooker room which we loved. The beer was great. Golden Pippin was lovely and the prices were very reasonable. mph - 5 May 2014 23:03 |
We were amazed by the size of this place. Huge main bar with counter in the centre. Large seperate room and snooker room as well. Friendly Mackem barman and good Cropton 2 Pints. Word is landlord is trying to get rid as fears of the upcoming opening of Wetherspoons in the Big Angel looms. willesden_seadog - 25 Jan 2012 01:42 |
well after making 3 more visits in the last couple of days i can now confirm this is the best pub in whitby. for a lot of good reasons, the quality of the beer each pint superb . the choice of the ales, including 1 from the cropton brewery 2 from copper dragon,+at least 6more.the friendliness of the staff, the good sized and reasonable priced food. and of course the location and the view. loiner8 - 7 Sep 2011 15:18 |
Now I shouldnt have liked this pub !! but for some reason when I visited last week I took the plunge. The viewing varanda was lovely, sat outside drinking some nice guest ales, reading the paper and having a fag it was lovely.... the pub was large and I can see it will be tough to fill for an atmosphere but from a beer perspective I thought it was fine. And what made it stand out is there were 2 micro brewery beers on there so that you were just not Black Sheep or Theakstoned to death.... I would say, take a chance with this one..... after all the view from the veranda is worth it on a summers night ! Enigma35 - 21 Aug 2011 22:15 |
Ah 'The Shambles'. I can understand naming a watering hole in such a way to reflect what you should expect. I'm thinking 'Shangri-La' or 'Heaven' or 'Paradise Bar' - but the Shambles was exactly what it said on the tin. If you have a family room, a non-optional family room, do not say 'families welcome' on your a-boards outside when said family room is the one area of the pub where tables are not cleaned, glasses are left on tables, crisps and what looked like prawns or maybe pinks (I didn't inspect too closely) are scattered all over the carpet. The sea view was difficult to enjoy through the filthy windows. If you are going to be so honest in naming your pub Shambles, rather than saying 'families welcome' on the a-board, could you say 'families as welcome as Gary Glitter at a kids' party'. Oh yeah - the ale - Length and Line was pretty good - I drank it in three mouthfuls. FranklyspeakingMarc - 25 Jul 2011 22:36 |
