We tried this place yesterday after seeing it in the new Good Beer Guide. Unfortunately it was nowhere near as good as Broood. So we'd wished we'd done these 2 the other way round. Ales were Thwaite's Lancaster Bomber, Blue Monkey BG Sips, Marston's Old Empire, Frothblowers Piffle Stonker & Milestone Shine On & Oktoberfest. Ciders were all from Lilley's - Mango Cider, Strawberry Cider & Rum Cider. I asked for the Rum Cider. But there was an overwhelming taste of pipe cleaner with perhaps a hint of mango. I've still no idea if it was the correct cider. Ales weren't in the best condition either. A good CAMRA discount is offered though and the long, thin interior of the pub allows for plenty of space with a mixture of drinkers, families and diners. There is a pool table at the far end. A touch disappointing. blue_scrumpy - 7 Oct 2018 15:52 |
Now called "The Bowling Green". Excellent range of ales and food - very cheap if you buy two meals together and also very reasonably priced roast Sunday lunches. Plenty of seats even before a match, welcoming home and away fans. Drinks and (especially) food absolutely delicious. The only downside: it can be a long wait for the food - and an even longer wait for cutlery to eat it with before it gets cold! Trev - 22 May 2017 11:40 |
go in before city games with my lad and my old man. staff are nice, 3 ales on including tiger and its relaxed and no idiots allowed. yeah its full of students but it is a student pub so not exactly rocket science to see em really! lestadrinka - 24 Apr 2012 12:37 |
Brilliant little pub, loads of character. The staff are friendly & it's not too pricey either. worth checking out the Open Mic night on a Sunday iceviper_13 - 30 Mar 2012 21:50 |
This is a great pub and I spent most of my student years here. I love it that much that I still go. It has plenty of character and atmosphere. The drinks are cheap, the food is cheap AND it now has real ale! Winner! I recommend Quids on Thurs and Open Mic on Sunday. Lunalily - 16 Nov 2010 15:34 |
