Thomas Wainwright in garbage condition on this visit. It looked like Wilf Mannion's socks had been steeping in it and tasted worse. The 'mein host' disappeared and had to wait to get it changed - to Woodforde Wherry.... this was clearer but still tasted like it had been strained through a badger's bum. Had enough and decided to leave. South Beds CAMRA deemed this good enough to go in the GBG. God knows why the beer was rubbish and landlord obviously didn't give a shit. Decided to get out of Bedford for last Saturday and we ended up here on a bit of a whim. So glad we did - we both had excellent home cooked meals (ie not microwaved crap like some of the pub chains). 4 real ales on - Rocking Rudolph which was very good, Thwaites Wainwright which was in tip-top condition, Woodford Wherry which was disappointingly flat and Greene King IPA which I didn't bother with. Landlord very chatty and friendly which is exactly what you want the first time you venture into a new pub. Other bar staff also very pleasant and we even got talking to some of the locals. Surprised this pub has such a low rating. It is also very accessible, only a short walk from Harlington mainline station... undeaded - 13 Dec 2014 17:15 |
Nice enough pub, not outstanding in any department but we found the people behind the bar friendly and welcoming, which compensates somewhat for an uninspiring choice of ales and standard pub-fare menu. priestleysj - 8 May 2013 12:49 |
Pleasant pub in a village with a mainline train station. The low beamed ceiling provides a challenge to anyone over about five foot eight who orders at the bar. Greene King IPA, Woodforde's Wherry, London Glory and Thwaites Wainwright on pump. That selection could be more inspiring, but hopefully changes over time. Large meal servings at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. BitterShurn - 23 Aug 2011 14:04 |
Oh dear. Please ignore my last remarks. We went in here the other night for the first time since the last landlord and landlady left to find that the place has gone downhill in the hands of the current people. Crap service, short measure, national brands on the pumps.......... Won't be back for a while. littledrummerboy - 6 May 2011 20:07 |
