This really is a lovely, classical back street pub. Has the feel of a real local pub with a somewhat terse who are you and what do you want type of Landlord. Nonetheless, its a place you could be happily happily enconsed over the course of an afternoon. strangetorpor - 11 Dec 2016 11:31 |
Locals pub in a Grantham side street that has 2 rooms and a few local characters dancing along to tunes they were playing on the jukebox. Ales were Sharps Doom Bar & Newby Wyke Bear Island. Clearly an old pub and whilst searching for local accommodation, I noted that they offer fairly cheap rooms. I just wasn't quite quick enough to book. blue_scrumpy - 30 Sep 2015 22:49 |
Sorry to spoil the fun but on a lunchtime visit I found it near empty, gloomy and uninviting. The only guy serving was sitting front of bar reading the paper and clearly found it an unwelcome chore to have to go behind the bar to pour a pint. That said, the result - the Bear Island lauded below - was excellent and good value at 2.80. Maybe I just hit the wrong time but it will be a while before I give it the benefit of the doubt and try again. guayabera - 10 Feb 2011 16:09 |
Nice 'local'. gentlebloke - 1 Apr 2010 00:32 |
Superb pub, visited recently on a very quiet Friday night. One real ale on, Newby Wyke Bear Island. This pub deserves more support from the folk of Grantham methinks markh737 - 29 Sep 2009 19:28 |
