The shakey is a small town pub right in the middle of hillsborough, near the crossroads. it is a greene king house. theres no car park as its a town pub, with local parking available. *** whilst not tatty, the outside design shows the place has been around a while. but the inside is very smart and modern. an open plan design, with seating areas and central standing area. the furnishings are clean and smart, and look as though they have had a recent re-furb. theres half a dozen plasma tvs placed all around for news & sport coverage. looking around, lunchtimes seem to be the regular haunt of a few retired folk. the toilets were basic but clean. a notice says theres a quiz night tuesdays & thursdays, with disco/kareoke fri-sun eves. I also noticed a dress code notice banning caps, etc at weekends. hillsborough can be a troublesome spot a times, being the home of the Owls football ground. *** the landlady gives a friendly welcome. only keg beers available though, which I found odd for a GK house. had keg GK IPA at 2.15/pint. theres no food available either. *** verdict: a smart, comfortable pub. but with no food or cask ales, can only give a 5. reynard - 9 Oct 2008 15:54 |
