Visited at lunchtime today during a stroll around Wadsmill and High Cross. My first visit but not my last. Lovely pub, pleasant friendly bar maid. Menu looks interesting and, by previous accounts, very good. We had a lunchtime sandwich which was well presented with chips and a nice salad.

On to the beers three were on offer Young's bitter, GK IPA and Adnam's Bitter. Three safe beers, we had the Young's and Adnams which were both in first class condition. Did spot an (alas) empty barrel of Skinner's Betty Stoggs out back.

Well worth a visit and I will be back to try both the evening menu and a few more beers.

This is a small looking country pub, which is suprisingly big! In the middle of a re-fit at the moment which the landlady assures me is going to enhance the feel and bring it kicking and screaming out of the 80's! It boasts a resturant at the back which is separate to the pub and serves fantastic food. One of the best meals i've had in ages and it hosts the new hot rock grills, which are kind of like having a bbq inside...i have never tasted chicken like it! Although the bar maid insisted they have this sort of thing everywhere in Australia! And my significant other enjoyed a home made steak and ale pie. The wine list is quite impressive as well and i enjoyed a fantastic rose spritzer with my grill! My other half who is into the ale also enjoyed a "proper job" from St Austell's Brewery which he assures me was fantastic. Really friendly atmosphere, the bar maid was friendly and enjoyed a chat with us telling us all about the goings on in the village and where would be a good place to take our dogs walking locally, we even got invited back for a drink on the re-opening night next week which considering the service and the food i think we will be taking up! An all round good pub with fab food and fantastic service...10/10 definatley one to visit!

Must agree with the above comments when i attended the pub early oct it was nice and lively in a an old fashioned local boozer way,not blaring music or giant tv screens with endless sky sports just locals all sharing a good old laugh and joke about everything i come from down south but felt like i had known everyone for years shame i was doing the driving cos i would have been there for a few more hours
Also found out its over 300 years old

Brilliant pub, visited 1st time and liked it so much we now visit the pub every time we travel back from Essex to Portsmouth, it adds a few miles onto journey but it's worth it as Jacqui & Miki who run the show plus all the staff are really friendly & will chat and look after you. If that's not enough they have Youngs + 2 Guest Ales, Good food using local produce, 2 bars, restraunt, outdoor seating, car park, a beer festival with pig roast 26-28 Aug & quiz nights. Meals 12-2 mon-fri 12-3 sat/sun 7-9 evenings. No meals Sun or Mon evenings. P.S I'm not related to the owners I just believe they deserve praise for the work they do.
