Great little pub tucked away up a side street, well worth hunting it down, very friendly landlord, nice garden and beer was great. A bit quiet but that's not a bad thing and it was a Thursday morning. Going back to Minehead in February and intend to spend some time in this boozer AnchormanMike - 18 Dec 2015 15:02 |
This is a really nice little pub in a small village location. Whilst Alcombe appears to have been largely swallowed up by Minehead, the streets around here retain old world charm. The pub itself is also fairly quaint. It has 2 bars, which were both fairly quiet on my Saturday afternoon visit. Only 2 other customers were present. 3 ales were on - Caledonian Golden XPA, Courage Best & Wells Bombardier. I was impressed with the pub stocking Thatchers Cheddar Valley from a polypin. Although it wasn't the finest I've ever had, as it had presumably been sat out on the bar during the hot weather and was going past its best. The owner seemed to be a friendly chap, who was keen to engage in conversation. Best of the pubs we sampled in the Minehead area. But we were to try better ones later in the day. blue_scrumpy - 2 Aug 2013 19:32 |
Used to go here in 1972 when I worked at Butlins. Great pub. grizzlygus - 9 May 2013 20:02 |
What a cracking little pub. Friendly staff and management, and well kept beers. The barman remembered my choice on each visit, even down to my preference of a nonic glass. Well worth the short walk from the Caravan Club site and avoiding the Minehead town pubs that are a bit of a disaster as far as I am concerned, probably down to the clientele rather than management. Lovely walled garden when the sun shone, didn't try the food, although I did see others tucking in. Will definitely visit again when in the area. kenbishop - 15 Aug 2012 14:30 |
Not actually in Minehead, but in Alcombe, which is a bit out of town, away from the butlins crowd and local chavs, and is quite a picturesque village. The windows had "Cask Marque" stickers which is always a bad sign. The choice of beers were Courage Best, Spitfie, Bombadier and something from St Austell, hardly local ales. Nice atmosphere but nothing special. cellarbuoy - 18 May 2012 21:46 |
