Lots of very old reviews for The Woodman so having visited the pub on Sunday I thought an update was in order: the food if not high quality cuisine, is absolutely fine and very good value - the Sunday roasts looked pretty good. They have Harveys ale on which was in very good condition. The bar staff were friendly, as were the one or two locals I interacted with. There is Sky Sports in the pub though the game on, Swansea v Leicester, wasn't attracting too much attention I'm lead to believe it can get pretty busy for bigger teams (apologies to Swans and Foxes fans there!). All in all, maybe not a classic Kent village pub, but I'd be more than happy to revisit for beer and food in the future. BothamsAshes - 16 Feb 2017 10:55 |
Delighted, too, that it didn't add to the eternal list of pub closures. In its latest incarnation it happens not to be to my taste either. I wouldn't want to do it down on that score, but I must say that the alternatives (in all their various guises - see other reviews) still seem to be doing rather better with their custom. pub_aficianado - 14 Nov 2011 14:46 |
I feared the worst earlier this year when I saw that Sheps had put this place on the market - it looked a hot candidate for yet another closure. Delighted that it's been privately bought, and that the new owners have put a lot of effort and cash into doing it up. Sadly, it's not to my taste, but it seems at present to be doing OK and is obviously filling a need not met by Otford's other 2 (3?) pubs. Large screen TV much in evidence, smoking area seems to have more occupants than the pub itself - but good luck to them, if this is what the punters want. earlydrinker - 10 Sep 2009 17:57 |
New people running it now. (August 2009). Friendly staff. Average beer, just Harveys or London Pride. Good food. Okay for a meal, but I would not go there for an evening out drinking. somerstown - 10 Aug 2009 19:57 |
I dragged a foreign visitor here, with regard to the Pilgrim's Way, and we all sat around guessing a trivial nothing. Later, I found out that I chose the wrong pub for my foreign visitor, but, honestly, these folks said nothing about the history of the place - I'm a Midlander but I really, really, regret not being informed. Zero marks, because I asked deliberately. If only these folks would have said something.... my visitors' experience would have been so much better. Go elsewhere! arkaye - 25 Oct 2008 19:58 |
