Pretty on the outside and in an attractive village. Beer on handpump was Greene King IPA and Adnams Ghost Ship, both very good. The food menu is very small, which should be a good thing, and the pub is popular (I visited on Friday lunchtime), although I personally don't like the gambling machines, televisions and music. My fish pie was enjoyable, with creamy sauce, chunky and flavoursome fish, melted cheese on mashed, not creamed, potatoes, but the peas and carrots were served on a cold plate. My wife's ham, eggs and chips also were served on a cold plate. We had waited over an hour for our food so there's no excuse for cold plates. My wife had the dessert of profiteroles with caramel chocolate and sauce, but they were frozen almost solid, as if the kitchen was not expecting anyone to ask for them today. The waitress was pleasant. The men's toilet was clean but in need of some maintenance. All in all, not out and out bad, but not somewhere I'd go back to or recommend. Viridian - 8 Jan 2016 15:23 |
This is a casual pub, with reasonably priced food that is served quickly. It's a great local pub and a good place to come for an informal dinner with a friend, partner or with a group of people. My girlfriend and I have visited quite a few times over the last couple of years and will continue to do so if there are no drastic changes. gixit - 21 Nov 2013 10:57 |
Its very clear that a new manager has taken over as the pub has come on leaps and bounds! The menu is honest and delivered to a great standard as well as coming out efficently. I would suggest the doubters that have had a bad experience in the past should revisit as the customer service and quality has improved tremendously. The ales are excellent and in very good nick! there are 4 on and they are black sheep bitter, greene king IPA, Hobgoblin (My favourite) and finally adnams broadside. A good place to go! joff28 - 11 Oct 2011 21:13 |

Never Again! This used to be a great pub where we enjoyed many meals whilst visiting the area over the last 20 years. Alas it is no longer the quality pub we enjoyed. Having contacted the pub to book a month in advance (as it used to be very busy) I had to ring back the following day to speak to someone who could take a booking. Having contacted the pub 5 times by telephone and posted the order to them with a deposit we arrived for lunch to be told we did not have a booking. They did later find the booking and deposit in the office. Incompetent management. The meal from the Christmas menu was extremely basic and uninspiring. The waitress also succeeded in knocking a drink off the table and into one of our laps. I am surprised to see that the pub was allegedly fully refurbished as most of it has changed little including the Gents with it's 1940's fittings and 1970's tiles. Should you need it you will find the toilet seat on the floor next to the bowl. Happy dining! crypton303 - 5 Dec 2010 15:46 |
