| Extremely quiet pub on the outskirts of Appleby. There are a couple of rooms. We were the only couple in one, whilst there was a family in the other room. Black Sheep Best & Hawkshead Best were the 2 ales on offer. Nice place, but lacking any kind of atmosphere. blue_scrumpy - 20 Jan 2012 22:00 |
| A very pleasant, rambling old pub, a few minutes walk from beautiful downtown Appleby. Food is good, if a bit overpriced (but then, there is a restaurant attached). Also several letting rooms - very comfortable, at least when I stayed. Well worth checking out. unreal_thing - 16 Aug 2010 21:11 |
| Not sure about the comment below-this is the only listing for this pub that I can find! Anyway, this is a fine-looking old stone-built coaching house on the road into Appleby, it's very long and part of the pub is given over to accommodation. Inside the pub is smart (nice carpet, leather furniture etc.) and food-oriented, although its character hasn't been compromised- still lots of partitions and low beams. Food is moderately priced but worth it-very good. The brilliant Hawkshead Bitter was on sale on my visit- and I enjoyed it. also Black Sheep available. Service friendly and polite.
