| Lovely atmosphere & beer second to none. Manager rotates guest ales on a regular basis. Best pub to use during the horse fair. BUT REMEMBER all pubs in Appleby add £1+ on during the fair so bring plenty of money if you drink more than one pint! GypsyJohn - 20 May 2013 13:30 |
| After trying the recently re-opened Midland Hotel near the station in Appleby, we headed back to the centre to find probably the best of Appleby's pubs and the best of 10 we tried in Cumbria last weekend. The landlord seemed a bit sulky and there were a handful of locals. However the beer range is good - Cross Bay Sunset & Winter Moon, Single Hop Wa-Iti, Marstons Burton Bitter & Pedigree on our visit. The two small rooms are fairly traditional and I could imagine it could be fairly pleasant spending an evening here. The pub dog, a greyhound, seeemed quite content to sit eating dog biscuits, whilst keeping an eye on the customers. Definitely worth a try if in Appleby. blue_scrumpy - 20 Jan 2012 22:04 |

| Down to earth town pub from Marstons next to amazingly low cost Indian restaurant. I mention this as one of only two pubs open on Saturday lunch during the horse fair and the only one with real ale, this is'nt good enough and all the closed pubs should be kicked off any guides listing them. beer_finder_general - 6 Jun 2010 11:29 |
