The Cellar Bar is located up a hill on a nice cobbled street in Batley. Next to the station, it is at the one end of a real ale trail along the railway. As its name suggests, it is located below ground level. It was fairly busy on our Saturday visit. Clientele were of varying ages. Ales were Cottage Mittelfruh & Duchess, Wychwood Piledriver, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin & Thwaites Wainwright. blue_scrumpy - 22 Apr 2014 21:06 |
Nice bar across the road from the station with pool table and popular with young and old alike. Had about 4 or 5 ales on. The Osset red was nice. anonymous - 8 Jan 2012 11:13 |
Very much open today, 4 real ales in excellent condition, but didn't see any obvious sign of Batley rugby league fans either before or after the game today, though you won't find any other pub between the station and the ground. Has all sports on. oftenscore6 - 13 Mar 2011 21:04 |
Friendly staff and a good range of local ales. Pool table and TV Screens for sport and music videos. Appears to be popular with the Batley rugby fans. Rod_Hariga - 5 May 2010 20:32 |
Fine pub owned by the people who run the West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury, and the Sportsman's in Huddersfield. It's in the cellar of a spectacular building, an old textile 'selling warehouse', designed to impress visiting buyers. Have a look at the intricate stone carvings of monkeys, owls eagles, parrots etc. before you go in the pub. After a visit, the huge dog sitting on its haunches right at the top of the building may appear to move, but don't worry, it's not real you know. arihall - 30 Mar 2010 14:01 |
