this place is so much better now! the new managers are doing a great job in restoring this pub to its former glory. well worth a visit again if you had a previous poor visit. keep up the good work guys!

Been here many times and seen many changes, not only to the pub but Staff, and service.
Last visit was 2 weeks ago and granted the place looks a heck of a lot better. Nice to see curtains at the windows and the old stale tobacco stained walls and ceilings have been painted which has given a fresher look. As for the meals, well I guess you get what you pay for. The price is cheap and probably so are the ingredients, produce.
Service: well I did not feel it was up to much. I would at least expect the waitress to bring the cutlery and condiments, after all .. this is not MacDonalds! The waitress delivered the meal and when walking away from the table with her back to us she said "knives and forks are over there" pointing with her finger. I just felt like a little care and attention to the small details would make it an enjoyable experience.
As for the beer: My husband asked for Guinness, there wasnt any, so he asked for other beers and there wasnt any of those, he settled for a lager, which he hates!
The barmaid serving him was arrogant with her replies. Its unlikely we will visit this pub again.

Will happily update my previous comment with the following;
Having spoken to the "group" that own the pub about the food, we were responded to kindly and went back to try again. Although I didn't have the Sausage and Mash I did have the Italian Chicken which was very good. My hubby had the "hazard" burger (very spicy sauce) and said it was very good too.
For the price you pay, which isn't too bad, you can get a very good meal depending on what you order!
Heres hoping for a good future for The Bold Forester!!

All I can say is don't have the sausage and mash! The mash tastes like instant mashed potato (Smash if you prefer) and the sausages were meant to be Lincolnshire but if they were then they were the cheapest ones you could ever find. The best thing on the plate were the peas!

We have been to the bold forester many times before. And have always had a good meal

However our recent visit started with absolutely appalling service, no direction on whether we should wait to go up for the carvery. Which we did and waited 10 minutes for a stroppy chef to appear.

The dining room was left unattended, which meant we had missed drinks, but the staff seemed to be having a good joke in the kitchen area, because laughter was heard. Whilst we were left waiting!

A mid-week Tuesday night carvery, which looked and tasted as though it had been there since lunch time, the veg was dry and limited stock, and they was no suggestion more veg was on the way.
The Yorkshire pudding tasted like it was left over from last Sundays lunch. Even my 7 year old who's loves yorkshire pud left hers!

The best part of the meal was the pudding which was obviously out of a box, and we had to get up from the table and ask for the menu.

What a big shame we won't be going back again.
