Decent traditional pub in Winchester at the King Alfred statue end of the high street. Original The Old Coach House - renamed after the town's most famous resident. Allows children, and does food, though few people were eating on our Saturday afternoon visit. Four local cask beers. A little lacking in genuine atmosphere and character (appears to have been refurbished just a tad too much), but a decent place to stop for a pint. SilkTork - 8 Dec 2019 13:20 |
Pretty unremarkable pub but had an excellent pint of Mr M's Porter. It's Winchester so prices are high. baxterfish - 7 Jul 2018 13:31 |
Nice looking traditional pub with a range of real ales. Back yard looks a bit boring and smoky, but there's a pleasant inside area with large screen TVs (on silent) showing sports, and a good view over the Guildhall. Though named for King Alfred there are lots of other 'Alfie' pictures around the bar, e.g. Alfie Boe and Alf Garnett. Trev - 2 Jun 2017 19:45 |
Alfie's is situated just opposite the Guildhall in Winchester. It was the one Good Beer Guide pub I hadn't previously visited in the city. The pub has a fairly dark interior. But there is quite a large outdoor area to the rear, including a pool table. Food is served in this area at times. The pub has 4 real ales. Yesterday, these were Upham Last Suspect, West Berkshire Good Old Boy, Flack Manor Flack's Double Drop & Flowerpots Goodens Gold. Sadly there was no real cider. Nice enough pub. But there are better in Winchester. blue_scrumpy - 27 Mar 2017 17:54 |
After reading the earlier reviews I entered Alfies with a lot of trepidation but was surprised to find a busy, friendly pub with four local real ales in decent nick, the service was good, the locals were friendly,an old fella with a British Legion badge came in and within a few minutes he was sitting with about eight students having a good chat, obviosly a local character. 8/10. slerpy - 10 Jul 2016 17:28 |
