Returned for the Wednesday evening "2 steaks for 9.99" deal - both steaks were excellent. Kept away from the Banks's this time and settled for a couple of pints of Hobgoblin which was spot-on. BobOs - 29 Jan 2009 14:26 |
Very cosy country pub with a warm welcome, nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings with dining areas either side of the central bar. Had an excellent pint of Sneck Lifter. Hoboblin was also on but, alas, I didn't try it. Instead, not having tried it before, I unfortunately opted for a so-so pint of Banks's Bitter (tasted like the glass had been used for cider, although I actually think it was just a cruddy beer - whichever, it wasn't to my palate). The menu is nothing special - just ordinary pub grub but appeared to be good value for money. We didn't eat on this occasion but will probably return for a meal and a couple of pints sometime soon - two steak meals for under a tenner seems worth a try and I won't let the previous review put me off, I'll make my own mind up. A lovely location- shame about the pub. We had (or tried to have) a family lunch there. Granted, more of us showed up than had planned-but it was truly atrocious. It took over an hour before the first dish arrived, and 2 hours to get all our orders out. The quality of what was served was appalling. the steaks were so tough that we couldn't get a fork into them, the stuffed peppers were halved peppers smeared with raw vegetables, and then had white sauce & cheese poured into them (don't try this at home, it's really not very nice!) the rice was overcooked, the chicken tasted of salmon, the beer was flat, even the ploughmans was 3 chunks of cheddar and a baguette. On the plus side- they did organise a cake for us, and the garden is lovely. but you'd be better off bringing a picnic if you don't want to leave hungry... sophyp - 15 Jun 2008 21:31 |
