We hadn't been to the George for a couple of years, having been seduced by Bartellas, The Cricketers and the Kings Arms, but we decided to try The George for Sunday lunch. The beers are very good and the food, although not the best, is fine for the price. They used to do a choice of very nice breads which we were looking forward to having with our starters, but on this occasion the bread wasn't offered. I asked the waitress for it but it never appeared and there was no apology. I had to ask for salt and pepper, which did appear. I ordered a pint of Spitfire and was brought a half pint, although this was changed without problem. Most of the waiting staff are very pleasant but one is unhelpful and unsmiling and lets the others down badly. Still, if you want very good beer, and ok food at a reasonable price, The George is a good choice.

Easily the best pub in Meopham - The Meopham Green pubs now being bistros with boozers added on as afterthoughts and The Railway degenating into a place totally devoid of any semblance of soul - there is much to admire about The George.
Good beer ( a tad pricier than The Cock), supported by great staff and fine food all help to explain why this place is so popular. In contrast to The Cricketers where there is a parking space for the ambulance for the heart attack you get on receiving the bill, each visit is very much a pleasure.

We had always driven passed the George Inn before, but this time we went in and we were very glad we did! As soon as we walked in to the restaurant area, we caught our breath. It was beautiful. It was ambient, the staff were extremely attentive, the wine and food was more than excellent. We looked at the bar, and agreed we would return. The terrace/courtyard was very pretty and would be fantastic on a summer's day/evening. Good food, good wine, good staff and an establishment steeped in history. 10/10

I took my gorgeous new girlfriend here and we had a very nice evening, the food was excellent and the staff were very nice to us and provided a very good service. They have a great range of beers and ales etc and we will be going back again and I highly recommend it, this pub is very nice and they also have a very nice garden and the atmosphere is great.

Visited this pub last week.

Very much agree with Pat Bateman re the layout and the very friendly barstaff.

Had Shep Neames Early Bird. Very drinkable. Spitfire and Masterbrew were others available. Also had a very nice meal from a varied menu
As it was a warm day had a further drink outside round the rear of the pub.
Would definately return to this pub!
One word of warning for the taller drinkers. I'm only 5'8" and my head brushed the beams in a couple of places!
