| Our final stop in Bexley was supposed to open at midday. But, at a few minutes past, there was no sign of life. We weren't sure whether it was still open. Eventually, after a phone call, the landlord opened up. I'm not sure it was worth the short walk away from the centre though. Old Speckled Hen was the only real ale. We were the only people in. | Very pleasant back-street local. Courage Best, Landlord and Cottage Somerset & Dorset Ale were on when I visited. Staff and locals seemed friendly. Wish I could have stayed longer but was on my way to see a play. Definitely worth seeking out. southdown12jack - 11 May 2009 13:07 |
| Attracted by the reviews, I had to try this for myself and was not disappointed. The mid-day welcome was inviting and the first pint of the day (DoomBar) came in excellent condition (somebody knows how to look after their beer and pumps). It's unfortunate the same mid-week mid-day standard is not available in the rest of Bexley. After a less than impressive tour round the Bexley pubs (those that were open) I had to return to the Black Horse to remind myself how a well kept, well priced, beer tasted.
