Right next to the church. Large place mostly given over to dining. However smallish area to the left of the bar appears to be set aside for drinkers. Had Fallen Knight which was very nice, also saw Otter Ale was on as a guest (?). The food was good with quite a large menu to chose from. Very busy for a Thursday night. captaineric - 18 Aug 2018 15:50 |
This pub is larger than it initially looks and has outdoor seating too. There is a small car park. But this was full on my visit. The location in a village-like setting is lovely. But it did feel a bit too foodie for my liking. Although there were plenty of people there just for the drinks. Ales were Adnams Ghost Ship, Brakspear Bitter, West Berkshire Mister Chubb's & Wickwar Bob. blue_scrumpy - 11 Jul 2015 22:55 |
An absolute favourite pub. Excellent atmosphere, great food, friendly & efficient service and good decor. Good parking too. Have used this pub many times for everything from a snack to a full blown meal and its always been a treat. My only complaint is that, since my parents died, I shall only rarely visit the area. LOVE IT!!! TheMoles - 4 Jun 2013 22:39 |
Wow. What a transformation. The Royal closed 18 months ago having been a poor boozer for years suffering from a lack of attention and general neglect. Now it has reopened (on 14th December 2009) as a really top notch pub with great beer, great food, open fires and a good atmosphere. Caters well for its clientele (typical Charlton Kings) and is run by the same husband and wife team who carried out a similar transformation at the Exmouth Arms on the Bath Road in Cheltenham. Large garden and car park so will no doubt become a popular summer pub too. coptelmguy - 31 Dec 2009 13:41 |
