| This is a sort of Wetherspoons for office people. They probably sell more food than beer, but there is plenty of space including upstairs seating. It is clean and comfortable and the staff are helpful and polite. If you are out with a girlfriend or wife this is a safe place for a few drinks but if you just fancy a few pints on your own or with a friend you might as well go to the Wetherspoons next door where it is cheaper and there is more choice. | This place has now been re-named Alibi. We were drawn here by a sign outside that indicated there was a real ale and cider festival. Initially we ignored this as we were intent on visiting the Britons Protection, the Peveril of the Peak and the Rain Bar. However with all 3 of these closed at 11:30 on a Saturday morning, we doubled back to Alibi. Unfortunately, the beer festival advertised was not until May. But we ventured in anyway. The interior is modern with artwork suspended from the ceiling and mocha coloured walls. It is possibly part of a chain. 4 real ales were on - Hornbeam Lemon Blossom, Dunham Massey Landlady, Wells Bombardier and Jennings Cocker Hoop. Whilst not a traditional pub, it served its purpose for us. | Improved a hell of a lot since the changeover to Varsity. Cheapish beer (with the card)good food, plenty of tv's and big screens for the football. A lot cleaner since being decorated all in all a decent bar. trainspotter - 13 Nov 2006 13:16 |
