This place came recommended for the food - the Whitby scampi and salad I had was top notch. In addition the bonus is that they had three real ales on - I just had the Theakstons which tbh is not a beer I would usually choose (but it was a LocAle) - it was outstanding - never before have I had a Theakston taste like this...I'm staying here next week.

This is a traditional cosy village pub open Sunday lunch & every evening. Excellent home cooked food served 12.00 - 2.00pm & 6.30 - 9.00pm. Cask beers on offer were Blacksheep, Tetley's & Salamander Ace Bar. The Ace Bar ran out & was replaced by Shepherd Neame's Spitfire. I didn't try the pale Ace Bar but all the other were well kept & were crystal clear. There is also John Smith's smooth bitter, Guinness & Foster's lager on sale. The landlord/landlady, staff & locals were friendly towards visitors & made them feel welcome.

Traditional village pub with nice intimate cosy atmosphere. There are lots of little nooks and crannies but plain white walls and clashing carpets and colour schemes could be improved. There is a strange blue room more akin to a city centre bar . There is a small selection of real ales and a home-cooked food menu. Wednesdays are alternate between Steak night or Pie night, both appear excellent value for money. (Pie night 5 per head and Steak night for two, including wine, only 20 per couple.)
Pub was fairly busy when I called and the locals were friendly.
No where nice to sit if you are a smoker though; there is a beer garden at the back but it looks very neglected without a bedding plant insight, or any form of attractive shelter from the rain.

Friendly multi-roomed village pub in an old stone building on the southern outskirts of the village. One stone built bar counter serving Black Sheep Bitter, Tetleys and mediocre York Guzzler, another handpull wasn't in use that day. Familiar range of kegs, Fosters, Strongbow, John Smiths Smooth and Guinness. The many rooms are slightly different to each other from a public bar like area at the front, a pleasant lounge area with bench seats covered in a mountain of cushions to a fairly plain blue room, and a dining area. Old beams and white walls mean the dcor is conservative and traditional, apart from the blue room. The atmosphere is that of a friendly village local. Look out in the lounge for the framed 1930s Guinness adverts of John Ireland drawings showing a Heath Robinson like view of Guinness brewing.
