user reviews of the Lamb Inn, Rainton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This village pub has an open plan layout which as previously reported has the bar very close to the front door. Apparently there are plans to move the bar back by several feet to offer more room near the door. The landlord, bar staff & locals were friendly. Two cask bitters were on offer at Saturday lunchtime, Golden Sheep & Barnsley bitter. The Barnsley was excellent. I returned on Sunday luch time & had one pint of Barnsley which was warm & rather insipid having been standing in the pump/pipeline for some time.

There were diners in the pub both days & comments on the food seemed favourable. The local cricket team frequent this pub. The pub is open all day Saturday & Sunday but closes between lunchtime & evening sessions during the week.

Found this pub quite by accident following diversion sign for the A1.. the other pub in the village wasn't open so I was really pleased to find The Lamb.
The landlord was very helpful giving me directions etc. and I enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee while I was there. I had a look at the menus.. there are several from bar snacks to full a la carte and a separate Sunday menu. Fabulous stuff!
I was so impressed that I went back on the following Sunday to have lunch and we were all more than pleased with the service and quality of the food.
Definately will be a regular customer and my family enjoyed the variety of the beers on offer!!! Well I suppose it is a pub!!
Ten out of ten!! Well done!

Very friendly and enthusiastic landlord who informed me they are now free of their contract with Marstons. A selection of real ales available but the choice not particularly my taste. Pub immaculately clean and well cared for but lacks a bit of atmosphere, partly due to the layout: the bar is in front of the door so when one enters all the locals at the bar turn and stare; a bit unnerving! Food all home-made and good value and noticed a far better than average children's menu. Friendly atmosphere. Smokers tend to sit outside at the front

stumbled on this fantastic freehouse selling cask ale, just off the A1 by chance as was going to the other pub in the village (which was closed) very friendly greeting, well kept jennings and black sheep bitter and the food was exceptional a hidden gem.

Well run, friendly, village pub, a freehouse but loan tied to Marstons. Three handpumps in use with Jennings and Wychwood beers plus Black Sheep Bitter, all very well kept by an enthusiastic cask beer oriented landlord with years of experience in the trade. Good value fresh home cooked food. Pool table takes up one end of the main bar, comfortable seating through the rest with a restaurant at the rear. Recently redecorated in a traditional style showing some of the Yorkshire stone building to advantage.
