Probably the best pub in Roker (Along with The Avenue which is not listed). Up to six real ales on from a good selection of breweries (Rat, Marble, Oakham etc.). I've been here a couple of times in the last week and the beer has been excellent. Worth a visit if you're in the area. zipdiskdude - 27 Aug 2024 18:21 |
Modern looking (inside and out) with a range of ales on - the Reivers and King Rat were both decent pints though I think I occupied a spot that one of the regulars usually sits at judging by the kind of glare normally reserved for people who have murdered your family. Not cheap for a back of beyond part of Sunderland, probably to try and price out the riff-raff - though hasn't seemed to have worked. Snarling_Mallard - 23 Oct 2019 23:14 |
Found my way here via the Wolsey (not listed - a shame). Clean and friendly with a good selection of ales. Had a good pint of Arkell's 3B (a long way from home. I imagine the view's good when the weather's nice - dull and wet this time. ellisref - 6 Jun 2014 12:41 |
Loved it to bits!! Local real ales; friendly staff and customers (I got talking to an East Fife supporter). No hassle just a good pint and good banter. TV screens and machines but not intrusive. Down near the seaside and on the bus route. A short walk from the football ground. It's a modern building but with traditional values. I don't think they do food - you come here for beer and a chat> Recommended. mcroyal - 14 Dec 2012 11:31 |
The best of 8 pubs I tried on a Tuesday afternoon/early evening crawl in the Roker area. This pub is fairly small and can get very busy on Sunderland matchdays. I was lucky and took one of the last tables. As its name suggest, it overlooks the harbour, the North Sea and the Wear. Inside is a modern affair and 6 ales were on offer - Old Mill Blonde Bombshell, Exmoor Antler, Belhaven Grand Slam Ale, Houston Killellan Bitter, Shepherd Neame Spitfire & Caledonian Deuchars IPA. The Antler was in good condition. It's a pleasant drinking environment and I suspect I will return here sometime soon. If this place is full, the Wolsey and the Avenue also dispense real ales and are not too far from the football ground. Neither are listed on here. But, equally they are not as good as the Harbour View. blue_scrumpy - 29 Mar 2012 20:24 |
