Lived in but totally agreeable pub. Coniston Bluebird at 3 quid was lovely, my wife had coffee in a cafetiere. People in, coal fire, top beer, a proper pub. Burnley67 - 26 Nov 2013 23:42 |
One of the last pubs I visited when I first came to Bowness, how I wish it was the first! A real drinkers pub, not a pub trying to be 'gastro'. Although they do offer good quality, good tasting grub and offer accommodation I tried neither of these focusing on the well kept beer. A new brewery to me, The Coniston Brewing Co. I tried the Blue Bird and found it in excellent form, in fact I have tried nothing else since but if the Jennings Cumberland and the Timmy Taylors are as good I'm missing out! Friendly locals, friendly and helpful staff too and positioned within 5 mins walk of my digs! Perfect. Keep up the good work Folks! Kirky - 17 Aug 2013 12:22 |
Remains an excellent pub. Had a lineup of six cask ales, and I can vouch for a good Bluebird Bitter. Also on were Tetley, Pedigree, Cumberland Ale, Cocker Hoop and Landlord. Food was excellent for hungry hikers. dynamiteninja - 2 Sep 2011 17:02 |
We arrived in Bowness and decided to look for some decent pub grub. This pub had lots of customers, inside and out and looked like a good bet. We were served by a friendly young lady, who was extremely busy, but was very smiley and professional. We decided to have our meals indoors, as the heat was overpowering hubby. It is a very family-friendly pub, with lots of toys and games provided to keep little ones busy, however, it could do with a refurb in places, some of the decor was rather tired and scruffy. Our meals arrived promptly, hubby was delighted with his Mixed Grill, however, the quiche I had ordered was nothing short of disgusting. Perhaps I had just picked the wrong item from the menu that particular day, but we did not return. gabbyannie - 2 Aug 2011 20:09 |
