friendly pub has lots going on at weekends children always welcome good choice of drinks lord - 7 Nov 2013 16:48 |
Happy to report that the Pub is not closed... Traditional pub with excellent large beer garden with marquee. Very happy to see that they have Courage Best on draft. Unfortunately it did not seem well kept. My wife was driving so she had a lemonade - the glass was filthy. Like other comments I agree that the pub is cliquey but at the same time people were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go back there - shame the drinks were not up to scratch this time around. MJEllis77 - 11 Oct 2013 14:51 |

I have lived in this area for over 7 years & rarely used this pub. It always struck me as a little cliquey. Maybe that was just me as I have started frequenting it a little more lately & find the locals friendly & Russ The Landlord to be a very accomodating host. The Guinness is very well kept as are all the other lagers, ciders & bitters. Children are most welcome with parental supervision & there is a beer garden out the back & parking for about 10 cars outside with plenty of parking on the road. They have several TV's so sport is well catered for. Sunday night there is usually a bit of a song & dance going on which is all good natured stuff. Well recommended. DiCanio10 - 31 Jan 2010 20:09 |
Situated near what was an old turnpike (a street called Tollgate Road still exists a few yards away), the Welsh Tavern (or Welch Tavern as it was originally spelt) has been around since 1827 although the current building was built around the 1870s. Originally there was a shop next door and this later became part of the pub and is now the pool room. The interior is quite shallow especially around the bar area and the dcor a bit dated but still has a good community feel to it and a few nice features like the etched windows remain. They run a successful Sunday League football team, originally formed in 1976 by Dartford supporters the clubs old Watling Street ground was a short stroll away. At the rear is a separate games lobby with fruit machine and a pinball machine. This leads to the well kept and spacious beer garden complete with childrens play area and a bat and trap pitch. The choice of beers is not particularly extensive (Courage Best is the only Ale available) but there are far worse pubs in Dartford and on a decent summer evening, a session in the garden is can be very pleasant.
