After a visit to the Plough in Alnwick (not listed on here), I took a lovely drive in the sunshine over the moors to Rothbury where I located the Queen's Head. This was a quiet pub in the centre of this reasonably large village. I'm not sure if it's always this quiet. But this was a weekday lunchtime. Ales were Wharfebank Blood Orange IPA, St Austell Tribute, Maxim Double Maxim & Marstons Pedigree. The landlord was a friendly guy. The main bar was cosy and there is a small garden and car park at the rear. Worth a visit for the drive here alone. blue_scrumpy - 18 May 2016 07:42 |
Impressive service ~ the barman brought our drinks to the table when he saw I was having difficulty. Marvellous. The beer was excellent. A choice of four (fairly) local beers in tip-top nick made this visit a memorable one for our small group or walkers. Comfortable sofas and armchairs completed the experience. Altogether a nice one. Recommended. Cheers, AR Alph_river - 26 Sep 2013 08:46 |
Great food served here, there was a grill night on when I last visited, steak, homemade chips (not frozen like some other village pubs) onion rings and free glass of wine. Good Wine by the glass and full wine list as well as 3 real ales on the pumps at all times and the best pint of Guiness for ages. Families made welcome and nice looking rooms for B&B ladywino - 31 Oct 2010 12:36 |
Traditional town pub serving above average food and decent choice of beers. On the night we visited, they were doing a special on house wine, with the price of a bottle reduced from 12.95 to 7.95 for two people having a two-course meal. So we were 'forced' to have a pudding... Against our will, obviously! rentaquote - 21 Jul 2010 22:52 |
Visited this pub several times in the fortnight I recently spent in Rothbury. It is split into the restaurant on one side and bar on the other with accomodation upstairs. The food is good, hearty stuff, served in either bar or restaurant. The bar is dog friendly and offers wi-fi. Service is welcoming and efficient and there's a quiz night on Wednesdays. A lone television is constantly on over the bar but nobody watches as the clientele are much more interesting. All our party were lager drinkers: bottles of Staropramen were out of date but it's alcohol, no need to get too concerned. 7Ps - 13 Oct 2009 16:54 |
