| Nice cosy pub with lots of character which serves good beer and food. But; it's quite small with a long narrow area for eating/drinking so when it's just a litlle busy it gets uncomfortable. If you're drinking at the bar you have to keep shuffling around to let the staff get plates to the tables. Many of the tables are placed so that if you're eating, you've got drinkers looming over you because they've nowhere else to go. Best to visit at an unpopular time to avoid the intimacy ! | popped in for a pint on way home one sunday afternoon , was packed with diners , got a pint eventually , cant fault the beer (henrys) but had to sit outside which wasnt a problem as was a nice day havent tried the food , but more of a eaterie than a boozer romfordir - 4 May 2010 17:45 |
| Ventured here on the strength of the reviews, having last been there over 15 yeara ago. I am sure there was another bar but there is now only one. Great choice of beers nicely kept - real ales and some interesting lagers. Not your run of the mill selection and seems to cater for real beer/ale lovers, and perhaps 'lager connoisseurs' - HOWEVER - nowhere to sit except the tables, and we were discouraged from sitting at the those laid for dining(even though it was very early) because they were reserved for diners. Nobody came into sit at the tables while we were there and we were more than happy to get up if anyone had come in, but it was also difficult to stand at the bar because it was the 'gangway' and very narrow. Consequently, felt very uncomfortable and a little unwelcome. Maybe it's less 'cliquey' in the day, but unless I was booked in for a meal, I don't know if I would want to return. anonymous - 2 Nov 2006 13:47 |

| Nice cosy pub, serves excellent real ales, guest ales, all sorts. Serves real top quality food too. Located in a pleasant village next to a river. pleasant little garden. I can't think why I didn't give it a 10 in fact. Strongly recommended. Mix of locals and London Essex folk who've driven out into the country.
