Located vis-a-vis Townhouse (which is more of a ticker's pub), you can still find a few cask ales here (I had Brains Original Cask Bitter, which I had rated previously) and some kegs, also a decent food menu. I came back in the evening, there had been a change of staff, and the surly barmaid looked like I was trying to torment her when I asked for a gin & tonic, with Tanqueray gin (which I had to point out for her).

A decent drink of Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted but £2.50 for a half! Far too much for a bog standard pub.

Has many of the features I hate in modern day pubs: TVs on every wall; meal deals; drink deals; karaoke; and fruit machines. Four real ales but only stayed for one as the Morland Original was weaker and had less taste than the MOR sounds (Ocean, B., John, E. and Duran D) piped incongruously - the average of the clientele was about 18 - into the bar. It is, however, clean, the seating is comfortable and the barstaff were cordial.

If this pub was run by JD Wetherspoon (and from a distance it looks just like a Wetherspoons) then it'd probably be fantastic. The staff would be friendly, there would be good local ales at good prices, and the food would be both good value and acceptable quality.

HOWEVER it's not a Wetherspoons, it's a something else a bit like it, so the pub has some very un-interested staff who are far from welcoming, the selection of beers is pretty limited and not that cheap, and I don't think it scores highly in any area.

To be fair I've only been in half a dozen times in a couple of years, always with other people, but I can't remember anything positive about this place, and I've never wanted to go back by myself.

The best thing about the Hereward is that in the evenings, it becomes a magnet for the chavs, so you can go elsewhere in peace.

Good deals on bottles of wine, found a table of which we had to clear ourselves and then go and ask one of the disinterested staff to come and clean down. The female staff all seem to congregate at one end of the bar, thus giving the impression that they are more interested in their latest tacky tattoo, fake tans and other general gossip. We also overheard a family on the next table complaining to the manager about their food as three of the meals were wrong,he just didnt know how to deal with the situation. But it's a good pub to watch the comedy staff in action.
