Traditional coaching Inn on the old Great North Road, now bypassed to the East by the modern A1. Stunning building with a vaulted restaurant, warm bar and lovely courtyard.. If you are staying, aim for rooms in the old building.. 3 real ales including Cotleigh Barn Owl & Nene Valley Manhattan Project, plus lots of other ciders, lagers and chilled IPA's.. I loved the feeling Stilton has been left stranded in the past.. Food was amazing.. Try the 7 Stilton cheese board... Barrow_Beer_Hunter - 20 Aug 2024 14:45 |
This is a fabulous pub on a previously important, but now somewhat quieter, main road. The Oakham JHB was quite superb and the welcome we recieved was warm and unobtrusive. cobbo - 31 Oct 2007 12:30 |
Just got into the Beer Guide, which it (just about) deserves; the building is quite superb, not at all the slightly faded coaching inn I expected - worth a visit as a treat mtaylor40 - 9 Oct 2007 19:20 |
The Bell Inn, historically an important stop on the Great North Road between London and York, is one of the finest surviving examples of a 17th century Coach House in the country. Renowned as the birthplace of Stilton Cheese and situated in the village of Stilton, The Bell has stood on its present site since 1500, though earlier incarnations, (as long as 1437) have been recorded. The current buildings date from 1642. Amarok - 3 Mar 2006 22:58 |
