It seems that someone has bought this pub, sacked all the staff and turned the pub around(or at least started to). The service was efficient and the staff seemed pleased to be doing their jobs. It has been cleaned up quite a bit, not least the toilets which used to stick, That being said, it was fairly quite at the time of my visit, so perhaps they still struggle in busy sessions, but something about the general attitude suggests this is not the case. I have also heard that the food has vastly improved so lets hope they keep up the good work. cellarbuoy - 2 Oct 2016 19:46 |
Whenever I visit this area, I pop in to the Hunters Inn in the hope that someone has bought the place, sacked all of the staff and turned it into the fantastic pub that it could and should be. It wouldn't be difficult as it is a nice building in a wonderful location. Alas, my most recent visit was as disappointing as all others. The pub is still dirty and the service abysmal so I had one pint and left. cellarbuoy - 30 Nov 2014 16:14 |
I have to admit to being very disappointed with this place. Despite all the good things said and it's Good Beer and Good Pub Guide entries, I just didn't enjoy it. There were too many beers on for turnover and a couple were on the turn, the food was bland and unimaginative and the place itself should have been full of olde worlde charm, but was opened out out inside and too light and airy and full of contemporary (gastro-pub-style) furniture. Staff pretty crap too. littledrummerboy - 25 Jun 2012 11:06 |
Despite the area being world class this pub is a fish out of water really. The interior is bland and depressing the outside ok but a tourist hell hole. Fox and goose at Parracombe was better. 6/10 montie49 - 6 Dec 2011 18:32 |
Enormous mock Tudor type of pub/hotel in as idyllic a setting as you could want. The pub very much divides itself into the bar for locals, a rather blander area overlooking the garden for the grockles and ne'er the twain shall meet. Beer is mostly local and I have to say I rather liked the place, but tend to agree about the sticky tables... Campanologist - 26 Sep 2011 23:22 |
